Baptism

Ephesians 4:5 tells us that there is only one baptism. We must find the answer to the question, “Which one?” in God’s word.  Some groups baptize babies, while others only baptize adults. Some groups sprinkle water on a person’s head, while others plunge them all the way under. Some groups teach that you’re saved first and baptized later, while others teach that you’re saved when you are baptized. What does the Bible say?

Who should be baptized?

  • Only people old enough to believe for themselves (Mark 16:16)
  • People old enough to be taught and keep commands (Matthew 28:19-20)
  • People who repent (Acts 2:38)
  • Believing men and women (Acts 8:12)

What is the purpose of baptism?

  • Forgiveness of sin and gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)
  • Washing away of sin (Acts 22:16)
  • Being saved (Mark 16:16; 1 Peter 3:21)
  • Entrance into the Kingdom (John 3:5)
